Origame

I developed this game for my Computer Science Engineering Graduation Project, titled ‘Video game Design using Origami techniques’.

That project consisted in combining video game development with origami in order to create a game where all elements where made up of paper; characters should fold and animate following origami principles.

Part of the work involved a study of different animation techniques to decide which one was the most appropriate to represent paper folding in 3D; I finally decided to create my own animation technique due to the particularities of that kind of animation.

More information about it can be found at the publication ‘Disseny de videojocs fent ús de les tècniques de la papiroflèxia‘, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, 2007, at the following URL: http://hdl.handle.net/2099.1/5358 (catalan language).

Technologies:

  • Language: C++
  • Graphics: OpenGL
  • IA: Finite State Machines (implemented with Lua scripting)
  • Sound: FMOD
  • Modelling and animation: Softimage XSI (I’ve developed a plugin with XSI C++ API to export animations to my own paper folding animation technique)
